GE15: Kedah govt working with MCMC to upgrade cellular coverage in Padang Serai, says PN candidate

PADANG SERAI: The state government is working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to upgrade cellular services in several settlements near Padang Serai town.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate for the Padang Serai parliamentary seat election Datuk Azman Nasrudin acknowledged several settlements in the constituency were experiencing poor cellular coverage issue.

"Yes, I acknowledge there is an issue of poor cellular coverage in this area.

"The state government agency has engaged with MCMC to upgrade the cellular coverage here from 50 per cent to 80 per cent by next year," he told reporters during his door-to-door campaign in Kampung Nesa here today.

The village is one of several settlements on the outskirts of Padang Serai town which suffer from poor cellular coverage.

The New Straits Times, yesterday reported the villagers' grouses over poor basic telecommunication coverage in the area.

The residents claimed they had to travel all the way to the main road to make a simple phone call because of poor cellular coverage.

It is estimated that some 8,000 voters in Kampung Nesa, Taman Bunga Raya, Taman Raya Indah, Taman Raya Murni and Kampung Padang were affected by the poor cellular services.
