PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) has been told to be more proactive in tackling supply chain problems and rising costs.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said: "This was raised during the Naccol (National Action Council on Cost of Living) meeting yesterday, where we discussed the issues relating to regular citizens, the marketing structure at the projection side and the market where the gap is at times, huge.
"For example, like last year, there was a huge problem affecting Cameron Highland farmers where they had to dispose their unsold products, faced problems with buyers, transportation challenges and so on.
"I have instructed Fama to give a full report and undertake adequate measures to ease this plight," he said after the cabinet meeting, today.
He added that related ministries, departments and agencies entrusted with the task must be more proactive in addressing the situation.
Yesterday, the Naccol meeting was held for related ministries to present comprehensive papers after they held engagement sessions with the relevant parties.
Anwar added that various methods of government interventions at the consumer-level would be studied in keeping the prices of goods in check.
