Ismail Sabri hopes projects under previous budget plan will be maintained

BERA: Projects and proposals presented in 2023 Budget last year should be given the go-ahead or further improvised when it is re-tabled in parliament on Feb 24, said former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said when the Budget, the largest in the history of the country, was tabled under his leadership on Oct 7 last year, it focused on improving livelihoods in rural areas and addressed housing issues.

"I hope projects which were approved for the rural communities will be continued and the 'One Family One House' initiative — previously approved to help Malaysians secure a home — will get the nod.

"Allocations to build new hospitals and upgrading dilapidated schools in Sabah and Sarawak were increased under 2023 Budget last year, so I hope it will be continue as these are facilities for the benefit of the people," he said when met after opening Bera's Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Disaster Operations Control Centre here today.

Ismail Sabri, who is the Bera member of parliament, was commenting on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's statement on Jan 17 that the 2023 Budget would not be tied to the one presented earlier but that the proposals would be taken into account.

Anwar said the government would be focusing on the services sector including green technology, digital economy and small and medium enterprises in the new budget.

Meanwhile Ismail Sabri, who presented certificates, medals and ranks to APM staff at the event, said when serving as the prime minister he had proposed to the Chief Secretary to the Government (Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali) to review the grades of APM personnel.

"The APM personnel at districts have huge responsibilities and their salary grade has to be revised," he said.
