Police looking for next-of-kin of abandoned abuse victim

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have yet to receive any leads regarding the next-of-kin of a boy who was found with injury marks believed to be from abuse and abandoned near Apartment Cheras Utama in Batu 9 Cheras on Friday night.

Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaid Hassan said efforts are currently on-going to locate the boy's next-of-kin.

He added that investigation is also being undertaken to find the culprit abusing the boy, who is believed to be between three and four years old.

"So far, there have been no arrests and we are still looking for the next-of-kin. The boy is still warded at the Kajang Hospital's children's ward for treatment and observation and he is in a good and stable condition," said Mohd Zaid.

It was reported yesterday that a passerby had informed the police through the MERS999 line regarding the discovery of the boy at about 11.30 pm.

Mohd Zaid was reported as saying that the 36 year old passerby had said that the boy was found alone near a junction.

The boy also appeared to have bruises on his body, hands and forehead, indicating possible abuse.

"The boy is believed to be a foreigner due to an absence of any vaccination mark on his shoulder. The boy also could not understand or communicate in the local languages," said Mohd Zaid.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)a of the Child Act 2001.

Police urge those with information regarding the case to contact the investigation officer Inspector Mohd Zaiyaudi bin Mohd Yaakub at 019-5355395.
