Anwar demands apology from Pas' Pendang MP

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has demanded that Pas' Pendang Member of Parliament Datuk Awang Hashim apologise for saying that he (Anwar) had a tendency to be more vindictive than (Tun) Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Anwar has demanded for Awang to retract his remarks and promise not to repeat such statements.

In his letter of demand to Awang, the prime minister said he would not hesitate to drag the latter to court if such statement is repeated.

Anwar is also seeking damages from Awang for tarnishing his reputation, giving the Pas politician three days to respond to the letter of demand.

In the letter filed by Messrs S N Nair & Partners, Anwar contended that Awang's remarks were malicious, untrue, defamatory and slanderous.

Anwar said Awang's malicious statement had been reported by the Malaysiakini newsportal in response to the corruption charges against Tasek Gelugor member of parliament Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan.

It was reported that Wan Saiful had been hauled to court of abuse of the Jana Wibawa funds meant for Bumiputera contractors.
