Doctor fined for causing injury to another doctor

KOTA KINABALU: A doctor was fined RM1,000 in default two months jail by the Magistrate's Court here for assaulting her ex-housemate, also a doctor.

Hanisah Rosli, 29, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to voluntarily causing hurt to a female forensic doctor, aged 29, on Jan 2, at 2.40pm at Imago mall's escalator, KK Times Square here.

The offence under Section 323 of the Penal Code provides imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year or with a fine which may extend to RM2,000 or with both, upon conviction.

The facts of the case stated that the victim was at the escalator in Imago Mall when she heard an angry voice.

She then saw her ex-housemate (later identified as the accused) who suddenly attacked her by pulling her shirt, and headscarf as well as slapping her on the right cheek which caused the victim to suffer injuries on her cheeks and forehead.

The incident was resolved by a security guard. The victim lodged a police report on Jan 6.

Further investigation revealed that the two doctors both from the peninsula, had been close friends since 2018 while studying together at a university.

Their relationship was strained due to misunderstanding over work as well as the accused's behaviour.

Prior to the incident, the accused had been disturbing the victim almost every day by sending her texts via WhatsApp. The accused also went to the victim's workplace to disturb her.

In seeking leniency, the unrepresented accused claimed that the victim owed her money amounting to RM7,000. She had been trying to contact the victim but was ignored.

She finally saw the victim in the shopping mall, which led to the incident.

Inspector Navind Kumar Vijayan prosecuted.

The accused paid the fine.
