Ramasamy to also take act against politicians who defame him

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy will not let off those who defamed him over his Facebook post calling for reform in the public service sector.

Speaking to the New Straits Times, the DAP leader said he would initiate legal action against those who defamed him after only reading reports from two news portals that had twisted his words.

"These individuals include those who had called for my resignation, those who had called for me to be sacked and those who had called for action to be taken against me.

"I will come up with a list of the individuals concerned soon."

Yesterday, Ramasamy said he would initiate legal action against the two news portals that he claimed had twisted his words. But he did not name them.

He said he had looked into media reports on the matter and found that the two portals had twisted his statement.

The two portals reported that he had asked for the "dominance of Malays in the public service sector to be broken". As a result, he was slammed by several politicians.

Elaborating, Ramasamy said his lawyer was looking into the matter.

"I am taking action against them because they relied on wrong, untrue information to slam me instead of (reading) my original Facebook post."

Last week, Ramasamy told the NST that some publications had misquoted his Facebook post in which he called for reform in the public service sector.

He had said his original Facebook post was a comment on the views of Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Abang Openg and G25 spokesman Noor Faridah Mohd Ariffin, who had suggested reforms in the public service.

Ramasamy said his proposal for reforms was made in the spirit of bringing about meaningful changes to governance and not tantamount to "breaking the monopoly of the Malays".

It was reported that Penang PKR Youth information chief Abshar Nurasyra and Parti Amanah Negara's Hulu Langat member of parliament Mohd Sany Hamzan were among Pakatan Harapan leaders who had called for Ramasamy's sacking.

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia vice-president Datuk Mohd Radzi Md Jidin had accused Ramasamy of issuing a "racist" statement against the Malays and claimed it reflected DAP's views.

Former education minister Dr Maszlee Malik had said Ramasamy had become the unity government's biggest liability and that DAP should do something to discipline him before it was too late.
