Clarification on Pas statement regarding visits to non-Muslim places of worship

KUALA LUMPUR: This is a clarification to the article which was published on March 27 regarding a statement issued by Selangor Pas commissioner Datuk Ahmad Yunus Hairi.

We would like to clarify that in the statement issued on Sunday, Pas had lauded Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's remarks on the Selangor Islamic Religious Council's reminder for Muslims to adhere to stipulated guidelines when visiting non-Muslim places of worship.

Ahmad Yunus had said that the party upheld the Ruler and the council's stand that Muslims should not go to places like temples, churches and gurdwaras to learn about other religions and beliefs.

He said the Sultan's reminder was to ensure there would be no confusion or misunderstandings.

He added that Mais' directive was clear and the Sultan's call acted as a reminder that proselytisation of Muslims was illegal.

"Harmony between religions and peaceful life among the multiracial people of Selangor is very important for the stability and prosperity of this state.

"Pas will always emphasise this aspect and at the same time ensure the Mais ruling is obeyed by all parties.

"Therefore, It is crucial to preserve tolerance and mutual respect between other communities," he had said in the statement.
