Investigate Umno and PKR too, Muhyiddin tells MACC

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has challenged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to also investigate the source of funds in PKR and Umno.

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president said the graft-busters should not focus solely on Bersatu because other parties, too, received funds from individuals, including businessmen.

"I want to challenge the MACC to investigate the president of PKR and the president of Umno. Investigate the sources of the funds received by Umno and PKR.

"Do these parties not accept political contributions from businessmen?" he said in a speech at Bersatu's fifth annual general meeting today.

He added that Bersatu members had filed reports asking the MACC to investigate PKR and Umno.

"But only Bersatu was investigated. The only one being charged is me as the president of Bersatu. Other parties and their presidents are exempt from investigation and prosecution. Isn't this a form of selective political prosecution?

"Even before the prosecution, many people including the media already knew I would be arrested, as if they knew I would be prosecuted even though the investigation was not completed. Maybe for them, by hook or by crook, I must be charged," he said.

He claimed that others were trying to weaken Bersatu before the state elections as they were afraid of losing.

"Bersatu's bank account has already been frozen and funds may be seized soon. This means our party does not have money to pay workers' salaries, office rent and utility bills. Our party also does not have funds for activities and election campaigns in the six states.

"Selective political predation has been carried out on Bersatu. In addition to party accounts being frozen and party leaders being remanded and charged, Bersatu's vendors and suppliers are also investigated," he said.
