Grieving mum recalls premonition of death in son's drawing

KAJANG: A mother never thought that the last drawing by their only son would be an ominous sign that he would end up losing his life in an accident while the family was on their way to a mosque.

It was the 7-year-old boy's wish to go and pray at the mosque instead of at home as they had initially planned.

"Mama, look at what I (Aydan Hadiff) drew. I drew mama, ayah and me, and I am fast asleep.

"I (Aydan) will go and sleep first, then mama and ayah sleep-lah," said Nor Hazwani Amir Hamzah, as she recalled her last conversation with her son, Aydan Hadiff Muhamad Afiq, before he died in a road accident.

Nor Hazwani said she could never forget Aydan Hadiff's words when he was explaining to her about the picture he had drawn. She said it felt like a sign that Aydan Hadiff would "go" first before they did.

In Aydan Hadiff's drawing, Nor Hazwani and her husband, Muhamad Afiq Rosli, 33, were depicted lying down with Aydan Hadiff, who was also lying down not far from them but with his whole body wrapped up.

Only after Aydan Hadiff's sudden passing, did his mother realise that his drawing had depicted her son in a burial shroud and not a swaddling cloth used for infants as she initially thought.

Sharing her grief, Nor Hazwani, who lives in Taman Sepakat Indah here, said that her son died due to internal bleeding in the brain and abdomen after they were involved in an accident on April 4.

She said the accident took place when all three of them were on their way to perform tarawih prayers at the Ul-Umm Mosque in Section 1, Bangi.

"My son kept pestering us to pray at the mosque that night even though initially we wanted to pray at home. But since he was so keen on praying at the mosque, we relented. The accident occurred just as the call to prayer for Isyak was being recited.

"The accident happened after the motorcycle that we were riding on collided with another motorcycle at Section 2 in Bangi as we were reaching the mosque," said Nor Hazwani when contacted by Harian Metro.

Nor Hazwani said their son was rushed to Hospital Serdang for treatment. He succumbed to his injuries at 7.20am on April 5. Nor Hazwani sustained light injuries but her husband suffered a broken thigh bone and underwent an operation on April 8.

"I am now back home but my husband is still recuperating. What is devastating for my husband is that he was not able to be there for the burial of our son in Tangkak, Johor because he was still in the hospital," she said.

"Aydan Hadiff wanted to be an artist and who would have thought that his drawing would end up going viral after his passing. Whatever it is, we have to accept this as fate.

"We know that our son is in heaven, " she said while expressing gratitude to all who prayed for their wellbeing.

Nor Hazwani admitted that she felt sad especially when she thought about what they had planned for the upcoming Hari Raya celebrations together with their son.

"My husband and I will be celebrating our wedding anniversary on April 17 and we were planning on going out with Aydan Hadiff to break fast. We also bought new Hari Raya clothes last week and we chose black as this year's Raya theme.

"Now all that's left are sad memories. My husband and I might choose to live in Tangkak, Johor because it is closer to Aydan Hadiff's final resting place," she said.
