Anwar: HR Ministry looking into claims that interns not paid an allowance

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today (May 30) that he is still waiting for the report on claims that some students are not paid an allowance while undergoing industrial training.

He said the Human Resource Ministry is currently scrutinising the report.

"The ministry has taken the report, and I'm waiting for updates," he told reporters after officiating the Fikrah Siddiq Fadzil Seminar at Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) here today (May 30).

He said this in response to allegations that some interns with ministries, government departments, agencies, and private companies have been denied allowances.

Anwar also said that he would examine any proposal to formulate a special law to protect the welfare of interns.

"Insya-Allah, when the Finance Ministry and I receive the proposal, I will take appropriate action," he said. – Bernama
