Food supply not affected by hot weather - Mohamad

PASIR PUTEH: The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry has given an assurance that the hot weather is not affecting output from the farming and fishing sectors.

Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, however, said the ministry would continue to monitor the situation.

"So far, we have not received any report of insufficient food supplies," said the minister.

"We will monitor the situation from time to time as the hot weather is expected to last until August.

"I advise farmers, fishermen and breeders to take precautionary measures when they go out to work," he said after the Jalinan Mesra Madani programme with fishermen here today.

Mohamad also said the government has approved RM600,000 for the construction of three fish habitat sites in Kelantan, which will benefit 3,785 fishermen.

"I would also like to announce that a RM200,000 project to improve jetties in Kuala Kemasin, Kelantan, has been approved. It will benefit 150 fishermen.

"We also hope that the ice factory built by the National Fishermen's Association in Tok Bali, which started operations in March, will help fishermen in the area get enough ice to ensure that the quality of fish is maintained before it reaches the consumer." — BERNAMA
