It is his right since he is no longer Umno member, says Zahid on KJ offered high post in Bersatu

KUALA LUMPUR: Reports on Khairy Jamaluddin being offered a "high post" in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) came to no surprise for Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said Khairy, who was sacked from Umno early this year, has the right to join any other political party since he was no longer an Umno member.

"It is his right (since) he is no longer an Umno member," Zahid, who is also deputy prime minister, told reporters today.

Zahid refused to comment when asked on Umno's next move should Khairy accept the offer to join Bersatu.

He also declined to elaborate whether Umno would make a counter offer for Khairy to return to Umno.

"I do not want to give away my next strategy. It will no longer become a strategy if I share it here (with members of the media during the press conference)," the Bagan Datuk member of parliament said.

It was reported yesterday that Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman and Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had admitted to offering Khairy a "high post" in the Bersatu supreme leadership council.

Muhyiddin said the offer for Khairy was still on the table, adding that the former Umno Youth chief had the experience and calibre to contribute to the party.

Khairy was among several leaders sacked and suspended from Umno for allegedly violating the party's Constitution in the 15th General Election (GE15).
