Klang Valley storm damage: Emergency funds for immediate school repairs

KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry says 27 of the 36 Klang Valley schools that were damaged in a storm on Friday were in the city.

It said the Education departments in the Federal Territory and Selangor would assess the extent of the damage with the help of the Public Works Department (PWD)

"The PWD will submit a report together with the estimated cost (of repairs) to the ministry," it said in a statement today.

The ministry added that it would channel emergency funds to repair the damage to the Education departments immediately.

"The repairs and clean-up must be carried out fast to avoid any disruption to teaching and learning," it said.

The Klang Valley was hit by a powerful storm on Friday evening. At least 10 trees were uprooted.

A family living on the 12th floor of a flat in Jalan Loke Yew experienced terrifying moments when their living room wall was blown away by winds in the storm.
