KUALA LUMPUR: It will be a season that both Mirabel Ting and Jeneath Wong, the nation's two brightest prospects in women's golf, will remember for a long time.
The pair capped their freshman year (first year) in the United States in style by earning the All-American honours from the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) for the 2022-23 season on Friday.
Mirabel, who represents Georgia-based Augusta University, garnered the second team acclaim, while California-based Pepperdine University Jeneath received an honourable mention nod.
An All-America team is a hypothetical American sports team composed of outstanding amateur players in a particular sport.
Only the finest 50 student-athletes were picked by WGCA for the annual prestigious recognition.
Mirabel and Jeneath kept up the good work by compatriots Natasha Andrea Oon (San Jose State University) and Ashley Lau (University of Michigan), who made the first team in last season's list before turning professional.
Earlier, Mirabel and Jeneath were named in the five-player shortlist for the Division I WGCA Freshman of the Year award.
Despite being a debutante, Mirabel played a pivotal role in helping Augusta University to qualify for their first-ever NCAA National Championships in Arizona, which concluded earlier this week.
The team, however, could only muster 26th place out of 30 teams.
Mirabel has competed in eight events and recorded six top-10 finishes, including a victory in her first-ever collegiate tournament at the Moon Golf Invitational.
Jeneath also made a quick impact after joining Pepperdine University in January, registering four top-10 finishes. Her best outing was coming in third at the Juli Inkster Meadow Club Collegiate.
Jeneath also helped her team to qualify for the NCAA National Championships and enjoyed a better campaign. Pepperdine University finished eighth overall.
