PJ eatery's ramen-durian dish divides opinions online

KUALA LUMPUR: A restaurant in Petaling Jaya is stirring mixed reactions among netizens with its fusion of ramen and durian.

While some people find the combination unusual and are unsure about the idea of mixing these two foods, others are excited to try it.

The restaurant shared pictures of the dish on Instagram, sparking a range of comments from users.

User @foodboy865 expressed their discontent, stating, "Congratulations, you've managed to offend two cultures and every single person on earth with taste buds with one dish."

User @chef.buiyardee described it as "disgusting and an insult to ramen and durian" and @eric_jr_awesome suggested the restaurant create a petai ramen instead.

In the "let's try it" camp is @rumeee21.

"Will you be serving this menu in July? If so, I'm definitely trying it when I visit Malaysia," the user said.

The eatery's Instagram story posted at 4pm said the durian ramen dish quickly sold out on its first day.

This trend of unconventional durian consumption is not exclusive to Malaysia.

Chinese netizens on Weibo, a popular microblogging website, have shared their own unusual ways of eating durian.

These methods include steamed durian with chopped spring onions, durian paired with instant noodles, and even durian braised in chicken stew. The recipes have garnered mixed reactions.
