Shop assistant fined RM5,000 for stashing porn

TAIPING: A shop assistant was fined RM5,000 by the magistrates' court here today for keeping dozens of pornographic pictures and videos in his handphone.

The accused, Muhammad Fitri Ishak, 26, pleaded guilty when the charge was read to him before magistrate Nur 'Atiqah Sapari.

Nur 'Atiqah ordered him to serve eight months' jail if he failed to pay the fine.

Fitri was charged with possessing 67 pieces of pornographic pictures and 55 pornographic videos in his handphone.

The offence was allegedly committed at a building in Taiping Hospital here at 12.15pm on Feb 16, 2022.

He was charged under Section 292 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail term of three years or a fine or both.

Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission prosecuting officer Siti Hajar Sulaiman prosecuted, while the accused was represented by a lawyer from National Legal Aid Foundation, Ng Wei Jun.

Ng requested for a lower fine as Fitri earned only RM1,200 monthly and was also supporting his parents and siblings, and expressed his regret for committing the offence.

The prosecution asked the court to impose a befitting sentence on Fitri as a lesson to the community and requested that the case be disposed of in accordance with Section 260 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Fitri paid the fine.
