Umno Youth chief apologises to Amanah over GLC appointment remarks

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh today apologised to Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) following his criticism towards Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu over government-linked company (GLC) appointments to agencies under his ministry.

In an open apology at the Unity Government National Youth convention today, Akmal said he understood if his remarks had offended the Pakatan Harapan (PH) component party.

"I understand if my statement over the GLC appointments have offended Amanah.

"From the bottom of my heart, I humbly apologise (for the statement made)," he said.

Last week, Akmal had criticised Amanah over the appointment of five PH politicians to lead agencies under the agriculture and food security ministry helmed by Mohamad Sabu.

Akmal reportedly said that the appointment did not reflect the reformation principles championed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who is strongly against political appointments for GLCs.

He also asked that the appointments be revoked.
