Muhyiddin: Raid at Hamzah's house politically motivated

GEORGE TOWN: Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin believes that the recent raid at Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin's home in Damansara, Petaling Jaya, by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) is politically motivated.

"I think so (politically motivated). There is no reason why (to raid Hamzah's home).

"It seems that the focus has always been on Bersatu (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia), Pas and the rest.

"And (just), like in my case, it is also politically motivated.

"So, I hope they will stop doing all this. Give it a chance. This is a democracy."

Muhyiddin said everyone had a right to do whatever they wanted.

He said if the people had done anything wrong, it would be a different matter.

"Report to the police for investigation. But not to take action unilaterally for a political end, which I do not think is fair," he added.

It was reported that the IRB raided the opposition chief's house on Wednesday over alleged tax evasion.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government would not interfere with the authorities' investigation into Hamzah.

He said he had no knowledge of the IRB's raid and the investigation.
