#NSTviral Home Sweet Home: Yi Yi and Sheng Yi land safely in Chengdu

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia-born giant panda cubs Yi Yi and Sheng Yi have arrived in Chengdu, China, known as the "home of giant pandas", according to MASkargo's update on social media.

A Facebook story by MASkargo at 7am showed that the pair of pandas had safely landed in Chengdu.

The footage showed their crates slowly being moved out of the cabin and with the caption, "Hello Chengdu! Yiyi and Shengyi getting off the flight."

MASkargo has been keeping netizens updated on the journey of the cubs leaving their land of birth.

Earlier, a picture of Sheng Yi lounging inside the crate saw netizens flooding the comments section to bid farewell.

One of the Facebook stories posted showed the pair enjoying their "in-flight meal" while caretakers fed them bamboo leaves.

Yi Yi and Sheng Yi, who were born in January 2018 and May 2021, respectively, were initially scheduled to return to China when they reached the age of two.

However, the plan had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The pair of female cubs are the offspring of Xing Xing and Liang Liang, which were loaned by China to Malaysia in 2014 in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

To date, the pair has three offspring - Nuan Nuan, the eldest, was born on Aug 18, 2015, and returned to China in 2017.
