PENAMPANG: A food packaging and processing factory was razed in a fire on Jalan Penampang Baru here this morning.
A worker near the location discovered the fire at about 8.50am and promptly contacted the Fire and Rescue department.
A spokesperson from the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department's central operations centre said it received an emergency call at 8.52am.
Thirty eight personnel and officers on five vehicles and an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) unit from the Penampang, Lintas and Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station were deployed to the scene.
The fire involved a storage area in a factory where various food items were processed. The Fire and Rescue Department said 90 per cent of the premises was razed.
"The firefighting operation used two water jets from the vehicle's water source. The operation lasted until 10.07am when the blaze was brought under control," said the spokesman in a statement.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
