Bursa Malaysia closes morning trade in positive territory

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia wrapped up the morning trading session in positive territory, driven by continued strong buying activity in heavyweight stocks, especially the construction sector.

At lunch break, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 2.19 points to 1,418.03 from Wednesday's closing of 1,415.84.

The key index, which opened 2.40 points lower at 1,413.44, fluctuated between 1,412.17 and 1,420.61 throughout the session.

On the broader market, gainers led losers 422 to 350, while 392 counters were unchanged.

Turnover stood at 1.90 billion units worth RM1.27 billion.

"With Wall Street turning more positively overnight, we believe the buying support may spillover to our local exchange, specifically within the technology sector.

"However, the energy sector will be under pressure amid a plunge in Brent oil prices. Nevertheless, traders should focus on domestic driven catalysts in the near term from the NETR, NIMP as well as the upcoming Budget 2024," Malacca Securities Research said in its daily market review.

The firm opined that trading activities may emerge within the construction, building materials and property sectors.
