Kuching woman claims she was molested during medical checkup

KUCHING: Police have arrested a medical officer who has been accused of molesting a woman during a medical checkup at a healthcare facility here yesterday.

Acting Kuching district police chief, Superintendent Merbin Lisa, said police received a report from a 34-year-old Malaysian woman at 6pm on the matter.

"The incident allegedly took place at 11.30am. The woman, who was undergoing a medical check, was alone with the suspect in the examination room.

"She claimed that the suspect had molested her.

"Following the report, police arrested the 28-year-old man, who was a medical officer at the facility, to facilitate investigation," he said in a statement.

Merbin said police have opened an investigation paper on the case, which is being probed under Section 354 of the Penal Code.

"Those convicted face a maximum jail term of 10 years, a fine or whipping, or any two of the punishments.

"We advise the public against making any speculations on the case or issuing ant irrelevant statements on the matter to enable us to complete our investigations," he said.
