Netizens: Where is Terengganu MB?

KUALA LUMPUR: Social media users are actively looking for Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, with some "missing person" posters making rounds on Twitter and Facebook.

Aside from the posters, also went viral were screenshots of Samsuri's alleged travel itinerary, flight tickets and a car booking receipt for Auckland, New Zealand.

Commenting on the travel itinerary screenshots, Twitter user @tuanbatu asked why would a menteri besar travel abroad using a low-cost carrier.

"The menteri besar is only taking an AirAsia flight?" he asked.

A quick check on Samsuri's Facebook page showed the Terengganu MB made several postings in the last few days in regard to areas affected by floods in the state.

However, none of Samsuri's postings in the last two days carried photos of him being on the ground.

Twitter user @zack_rockstar urged Samsuri to clarify whether or not the latter is on holiday during the current monsoon season.

"I would like to ask the Terengganu MB to give an answer, whether or not it is true that he is currently on holiday while the flood level is rising," he wrote.

Facebook user Hishamuddin Abdullah came to Samsuri's defence, saying the latter is in New Zealand to visit his children and grandchildren.

"They say the MB is not concerned about the people. Feel free to make slander. For your information, the MB has two children studying in New Zealand and two grandchildren there too.

"Coincidentally, the date for him to go there coincides with the floods in Terengganu. So, it is up to the people how they want to evaluate this. Everyone has the right to do so," he said.

Another Twitter user @yaakub_abu said the people should move on and forget about getting help from politicians. Instead, he said the public should help one another.

"Move on. During an emergency such as this, we should all go out and help each other. Why rely on politicians when they are always busy with power-grabbing (and) avoiding legal charges.

"Next general election, change the government and choose others, perhaps we could choose independent candidates who don't have to answer to political parties," he said.

@siMuraiBatu, on the other hand, called for the help of Malaysians and students in New Zealand and Australia to find out if Samsuri was actually there.

"Dear students and Malaysians who are in Auckland and Sydney, please do your duty and be the eyes and cameras of all Malaysians. Take note of the date and time," he wrote.

The New Straits Times has made attempts to reach Samsuri, the MB's office and other Pas leaders for clarification but to no avail.
