#TECH: CelcomDigi aids flood victims

KUALA LUMPUR: Seeing how the monsoon season has caused families in affected areas to take shelter at temporary relief centres, CelcomDigi has decided to deploy food relief and basic supplies, as well as wireless connectivity to them.

The relief efforts provide necessities worth RM1.5 million and WiFi connectivity at Pusat Permindahan Sementara (flood relief centres) nationwide, for up to 3,000 families.

Necessities such as pillows, blankets, first aid, and toiletries have been deployed to the Communications and Digital Ministry (KKD) for distribution.

CelcomDigi chief corporate affairs officer, Joachim Rajaram said they have readied their sources, employees, and network to support more Malaysians nationwide - whether customers, dealers, or partners.

"We are working closely with the government and flood relief agencies for coordinated efforts to reach out to as many flood-affected families," he added.

PRE AND POST-FLOOD INITIATIVES

Since the start of the quarter, several ongoing initiatives to reduce the impact of floods on communities are being implemented.

A Flood Preparation Toolkit was shared with those in flood-prone areas for measures before, during, and after the floods.

WiFi units were deployed in affected relief centres and more centres will be equipped with it soon.

In collaboration with the Malaysian Relief Agency, boats have been mobilised in severely flooded areas to aid stranded victims.

Also, several efforts such as strengthening sites in high-risk areas, and preparing power generators and mobile transceiver stations are in place to reduce service disruptions.

CelcomDigi's operations teams are on standby 24/7 to be deployed to affected areas.
