80-year-old man burnt to death in pre-dawn fire

IPOH: An 80-year-old man was burnt to death in a fire which razed six houses in Jalan Bagan Ikan, Bagan Datuk, here early today.

His identity is yet to be known.

A Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said they received a distress call at 6.42am and a team of firemen from Teluk Intan, Sungai Tiang and Bagan Datuk rushed to the scene.

The spokesperson said the body the man was found in a room of the second house. Another 24-year-old man was also injured in the 6.20am incident.

"Six houses were destroyed in the pre-dawn fire which also saw a Toyota Altis, Perodua Kancil and a motorcycle destroyed," he said, adding that the operation ended at 1.21pm today.

He added that the body was taken to the Teluk Intan Hospital for post-mortem while the injured victim was also taken to the same hospital for further treatment.

"The exact cause of the fire and total loss involved is still under investigation," he said.
