KL City defender Anwar puts a smile on Wan Azizah

KUALA LUMPUR: It was an exciting moment for Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail when she heard the name "Anwar Ibrahim" being announced in the second-half of the Federal Territories Minister's Cup match between hosts KL City and visitors Perak last night.

But it was not her husband, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who was about to come out as a substitute at the KLFA Stadium here. Instead, it was his namesake, a 23-year-old player who hails from Kota Baru, Kelantan, who now plies his trade as a defender with KL City.

After a good time cheering from the stand and when the game was over, Wan Azizah came down to the pitch to present medals to KL City, who emerged as the victor. When it was Anwar's turn to go on stage, she could not resist the chance to take a picture with him.

Anwar, who was previously on the books at Selangor II, said he was flattered by Dr Wan Azizah's approach.

"Akram Mahinan went on to the stage first ahead of me and told her my name. She then said she wanted to take a picture with me, and I was touched," he said.

The right back added that their 3-0 win over Perak last night was a good result ahead of the new Super League season.
