Mickey finally scores for Harimau Malaya

KUALA LUMPUR: Winger Faisal Halim believes it is a new dawn for him after ending his goal drought in Malaysia's 2-0 win over Hong Kong in a friendly at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri on Tuesday.

Faisal also recorded an assist when his pass found Akhyar Rashid, who scored the opening goal in the 18th minute.

The 25-year-old Faisal, also known as Mickey, added Harimau Malaya's second in the 41st minute — his first since the AFF Cup last year.

The Selangor flanker hopes his goal for Malaysia will give him confidence in the Super League.

He has yet to score for Selangor this season.

"I am relieved, and this is a good start for me. I still need to double up on my efforts and improve my weaknesses.

"The goal tonight is a morale booster for me to continue my rhythm when I report back to Selangor for the Super League," said Faisal, who has 20 caps, after the match on Tuesday.

"I'm grateful, and I need to thank my family and the Malaysian fans for giving me the support and motivation to do better in the game."

However, the 25-year-old said the national players need more time to gel as a unit under coach Kim Pan Gon.

"We could not achieve what the coach had wanted, but we still managed to win both of our friendly matches," Faisal added.

Last week, Malaysia edged Turkmenistan in their first friendly at the same venue.
