Two youths beaten up following disagreement over Mobile Legends game

MELAKA: A restaurant worker was severely assaulted by a group of men at a petrol station in Telok Mas here yesterday, all because he tried to help his friend resolve a disagreement over an online game.

In the 5am incident, Amirul Hisham Shamsuri, 25, was persuaded by his friend, Mohd Arsyad Mohd Nor, 22, to the location to resolve an understanding over the latter's refusal to participate in a Mobile Legends online game session.

Melaka Tengah district police chief, Assistant Commissioner of Police Christopher Patit, said based on the police report, the victims claimed that when they arrived at the petrol station, a group of men on motorcycles were waiting for them.

He said a few minutes later, more men on motorcycles appeared. The group then proceeded to assault Mohd Arsyad.

When Amirul Hisham attempted to step in and save his friend, he was also beaten up with motorcycle helmets.

Amirul Hisham sustained head injuries, a broken nose and also required stitches to the head when he was later taken to the Melaka Hospital for treatment.

"His friend, meanwhile, needed 10 stitches to the forehead," he said in a statement.

Patit said police, acting on information, deployed a team from the Secret Societies, Anti-Gambling and Vice Unit (D7) to conduct an investigation.

They arrested seven people, aged between 16 and 28 in two raids along Jalan Kota Melaka, followed by three others at the same location 20 minutes later.

The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, and Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.

All seven have been remanded for seven days from today to assist the investigation.
