Balik kampung rush slows traffic flow, accidents reported

KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic was slow on many routes nationwide this morning as people returned to their hometowns ahead of the Hari Raya weekend, with accidents reported along major highways.

The Malaysian Highway Authority said on Twitter that traffic flow on both sides of the Kajang-Seremban Highway was still smooth if slow.

PLUS Malaysia Bhd tweeted that a number of accidents had occurred as early as 8am today.

"Traffic between Sungai Besi Toll Plaza and the city centre slowed down at 8.24am due to the rain but returned to normal four hours later.

"At 10.08am, an accident occurred at Km301.8 on the northbound route between Bangi and Kajang, but no lanes were obstructed.

"At 11.22am, an accident was reported at Km111.6 along the southbound route between Pagoh and Yong Peng (U), but traffic was smooth in both directions," it said.

PLUS also said traffic slowed down at Seberang Jaya to Sungai Dua along the northbound route at 11.23am.

It reported an accident at Km260.4 along the northbound route between Port Dickson (U) and Seremban, but no lanes were blocked.

"At 11.49am, an accident occurred along the northbound route at Km180.2 between Alor Pongsu and Bandar Baharu, and the right lane was blocked, slowing traffic.

"Another accident occurred at Km155.5 along the northbound route between Pagoh and Bukit Gambir, but traffic was under control."

PLUS also informed the public via its Twitter account that they had opened the Smartlane at Km306.7 to Km297.0 along the northbound route between Tapah and Gopeng. It added that the left lane could now be used by the public.
