PH, BN accused of neglecting Kedah's water supply issue

ALOR STAR: Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) been accused of being careless and negligent in solving the water problem currently affecting the people.

Public Works,Water Supply and Water Resources, Irrigation and Drainage and State Energy committee chairman Mohamad Yusoff@Munir Zakaria said PH and BN not only failed to help the people when governing the state, but also blamed the current state government and Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for failing to resolve the water issue.

"The fact is that the people of Kedah clearly see the commitment of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government led by Muhammad Sanusi who is trying to resolve this water supply issue.

"The people can see in almost all districts in the state, pipe replacement is actively being carried out so that the water supply will not be affected in the future," he said in a statement here today.

Mohamad Yusoff said the operation to replace old pipes and the upgrading of five water treatment plants throughout the state were the cause of the disruption in the supply of treated water currently being faced.

He said the disruption has become more chronic as water resources have dried up due to the hot water and lack of rain, affecting approximately 8,000 accounts of Syarikat Air Darul Aman (Sada) involving 40,000 users.

"The festival season has also caused water supply disruptions in Kedah to become worse, so Sada has implemented a Contingency Plan to deal with this issue comprehensively.

"The situation is not as bad as portrayed by some parties. It is still under control and Sada is handling it well, by sending tankers to the affected areas," he said.

He asked for the cooperation of all parties, especially the people of Kedah, to use water prudently and make early preparations by keeping enough water supplies to deal with unforeseen situations.

He said, Sasa is also implementing the construction of a pump house and suction tank to overcome the problem of low water pressure in high areas and at the end of the distribution system.
