Stop making speculative statements, Sanusi told

ALOR STAR: Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor should stop making statements without any solid basis nor evidence.

Sungai Petani member of parliament Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari took Sanusi into task for not being mindful in making statements recently.

The Pakatan Harapan lawmaker also claimed that there were elements of deception and immature politics in Sanusi's speeches.

Taufiq pointed out that Sanusi's recent statement regarding the plot to remove him from the National Finance Council only served to create suspicion among the state's leaders and appeared to show that he did not trust any decision made by the Sultan of Kedah.

"He should behave like a menteri besar. The wisdom of Tuanku Sultan should not be disputed and no statement has been made yet (in any case). In fact, his statement will also smear the relationship between the state and federal governments.

"It also shows that he seems to be questioning the wisdom of Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah by implying that the Sultan of Kedah is easily influenced," he said in a statement.

Taufiq was commenting on Sanusi's claim recently that there was an attempt to remove him from the National Finance Council, to be replaced by the state secretary.

He added that Article 108(1) of the Federal Constitution clearly stated that the National Finance Council consisting of the prime minister, any minister designated by the prime minister and a representative from each state appointed by the King or Yang Dipertua Negeri.

"In fact, Sanusi himself admitted that he had no evidence because the matter had not yet happened. To me, this is actually just pure speculation. Nothing else but the fear of his own shadow.

"Sanusi should focus more on thinking about the welfare of the people and maintaining good relations between the state government and the federal government.

"He is representing Kedah now, not a political party. Statements like these do not help at all in developing Kedah," he said.

Meanwhile, Kedah Umno Information chief Datuk Shaiful Hazy Zainol Abidin advised Sanusi not to repeat his mistakes in making slanderous remarks.

He was referring to a recent court decision where Sanusi was ordered to pay RM120,000 to former Pokok Sena MP Datuk Mahfuz Omar for slanderous remarks against him.

"It is not appropriate to point fingers and accuse the government today of conspiring to remove him when the government today has no final authority to determine the state representative (in the National Finance Council).

"The menteri besar needs to stop the political theatrics, which ultimately show that he does not understand the provisions of the law.

"I challenge Sanusi to reveal details of the letter that allegedly lobbied for him to be removed from the National Finance Council. This is a very heavy and serious accusation," he said.

Yesterday, Sanusi had defended his claims that there was a plot to remove him from the council.

He had claimed that there was a letter from the Finance Ministry to the Sultan of Kedah's office lobbying to replace him as the state's representative in the National Finance Council.
