Cabinet reshuffle is PM's call, says Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said reshuffling the cabinet is the prerogative of the prime minister.

He said based on experience, any decision on a reshuffle need not be discussed in the cabinet.

However, he is of the view that all members of the cabinet and deputy ministers in the unity government have performed satisfactorily.

"Let us wait if it (cabinet reshuffle after state elections) happens. In my opinion, all (ministers and deputies) have been performing," he told reporters after the National Training Week 2023 at Putrajaya International Convention Centre here today.

An online news portal quoted a source yesterday in reporting that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim may be planning to reshuffle the cabinet after elections in six states.

The source had said that Anwar may get rid of members of the cabinet who are not performing satisfactorily, and that he would also remove secretaries-general and directors-general from an unspecified number of ministries to "clean up" the civil service and administration.

State elections in Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan and Terengganu are expected to be held by July.

On Feb 22, the chief minister and menteris besar of Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, Negri Sembilan, Selangor and Terengganu agreed to dissolve their respective state assemblies in the last two weeks of June.
