Visually impaired man clearing tactile path touches netizens

KUALA LUMPUR: Local authorities install directional tactile paths near public transport areas to help the visually impaired access facilities.

But some irresponsible people park their vehicles on the tactile path or block it with objects.

Rather than making a complaint or waiting for others to help, a visually impaired man cleared a blocked tactile path himself.

A video of the incident was shared by TikTok user MrRanggaPnNadia recently.

In the video, a man is seen pushing away motorcycles that were obstructing the tactile path at a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station.

"We will continue to share and raise awareness on tactile paths and the rights of the disabled. I will always support you.

"Proud of you, sayang. Let's all ensure tactile paths are safe for visually impaired people," the wife of the man in the video said in the caption of the clip.

The video has gone viral, with more than one million views at press time.

Netizens say the video raised awareness on the importance of tactile paths.

TikTok user Yan said: "My god, after 20 years I just learnt why the path looks like that. It is for disabled people."

TikTok user Adeliey Part Nam said he felt motivated to help the community after watching the clip.

"InsyaAllah, I will help move things blocking tactile paths if I come across them."
