Lodge report against Kedah MB for creating public disaffection: Guan Eng

GEORGE TOWN: Penangites should lodge police reports against Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for creating public disaffection and trying to cause enmity between the people of Kedah and Penang by claiming Penang still belongs to Kedah.

DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng said, not just the 1.8 million Penangites, but both the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Ramkarpal Singh had refuted Sanusi for failing to understand the law to the extent of disrespecting and even denigrating the Federal Constitution.

Anwar had added that even the Sultan of Kedah did not dispute Penang's right to exist as a state when the Sultan of Kedah had consented to the Federal Constitution which recognises Penang as one of the 13 sovereign states in Malaysia.

"This is not the first time that Sanusi is making such an outrageous and false claim against Penang.

"Earlier, Sanusi had publicly stated that he doubted the sovereignty of Penang and the right of Penang to exist as Penang should be under Kedah. Following his provocative comments, the Penang state assembly had passed a unanimous motion, supported by the lone Penang Pas assemblyperson, condemning Sanusi for doubting Penang's sovereignty.

"Sanusi is clearly intent on leveraging on this false claim to gain extra political mileage in the coming state election.

"Gaining political mileage is an irresponsible and reckless move when such baseless and non-existent claims can create public disaffection amongst the people and appears to be trying to cause public enmity amongst the people of Kedah and Penang," he said today.

The Bagan member of parliament said even though all the facts and law had underlined that Sanusi was wrong, he still refused to recant and repent his wrongs.

"By provoking and questioning Penang's sovereignty and right to exist as a state, Sanusi is a public danger to the peace and security of the nation.

"Police reports should be lodged by the 1.8 million Penangites to press for action against Sanusi to protect Penang and prevent 'political interlopers' from invading our state to ensure that we can continue our lives peacefully and enjoy prosperity," he added.

On Monday, Sanusi had claimed that Penang was under the ownership of Kedah, and Perak and Perlis were the only states that had a border with Kedah.

"I'm waiting for confirmation from the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia on whether there is basis to confirm Kedah's border with other states. From what I know, Penang is Kedah's.

"So there is no such thing as the Kedah-Penang border. Our state border ends near the island there (Balik Pulau). And there's a border with Perak. How can it (Kedah-Penang border) be measured? Which gazette should we use?" he had asked.

In his response, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow had told Sanusi that he would see him in court if the latter was serious about the matter.

Chow said like other issues before this, he had often told Sanusi that he would meet him in court but the latter had not taken any legal action. This included Sanusi's demand for payment for water and a stake in Seberang Prai.

Meanwhile, Lim, who is Air Putih assemblyman, also called on Penang Pas to state their stand on whether they would disassociate themselves with Sanusi.

"Should they fail to do so, then Pas should not contest in the coming state elections if they cannot fully represent the interests of Penangites as well as defend, protect and preserve the Federal Constitution," he stressed.
