Anwar urges PH BN supporters to set aside past rivalries for state elections

NILAI: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today told members and supporters of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) to put their past rivalries between the political coalitions behind in the upcoming state elections.

The prime minister and PH chairman instead advised members and supporters of the two coalitions aligned with the unity government to make amends and move forward for the betterment of the country.

"I understand that these coalitions (aligned with the unity government) are something new and that it will take some time for the people and supporters to embrace it.

"I also understand the bitterness in the past (between members and supporters of the two coalitions) is still there. That should not be the way.

"We must learn to forgive and move forward when there is sincerity, but avoid doing so if the other party wants to rob us away or slander us," he said in his speech at the launching of the launching of the Sentuhan Kasih Desa programme, which was organised by the Rural and Regional Development Ministry, here today.

While differences in opinion is welcome, Anwar said all parties in the unity government should work towards a common goal that is to improve the welfare and wellbeing of the people when a decision has been made.

"At the federal level, differences of views certainly exist even though a minister has made his or her decision over a certain issue.

"However, when a decision is made, we should move forward and work towards a common goal," he said.

On a related matter, Anwar said he was upbeat that the people in Negri Sembilan would continue to back PH and BN in the upcoming state elections.

Anwar based his confidence on the track record of the Negri Sembilan state government under the leadership of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

It was reported that Aminuddin had been granted an audience with the Yang Dipertuan Besar Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir on June 28 to seek consent to dissolve the state assembly for the state election to be held.

Aminuddin said if consent was given, the state assembly would be dissolved on June 30, the last day of its term.

Apart from Negri Sembilan, the other states that will face the state elections, rumoured to be held in August this year, are Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Kelantan and Terengganu.
