Girl, 17, detained for extorting RM27,000 from woman over lewd pictures

TANGKAK: Police have detained a 17-year-old girl after she had allegedly extorted a woman to the tune of RM27,000 over the latter's lewd pictures.

Tangkak acting district police chief, Deputy Superintendent Idris Abdul Rahman, said the teenager was detained at Taman Seri Nilam around 4pm on Friday after the victim lodged a police report on Monday.

He said preliminary investigations showed that the suspect, using a Facebook account with the name "Rayyan Razak", had threatened to distribute lewd images of the 20-year-old victim if the latter did not hand over a sum of money.

He said the victim first knew the suspect on January 28 via Instagram.

"The victim has to date transferred a total of RM27,000 to the suspect via 32 transactions," he said in a statement.

Idris said the last threat made by the suspect was on May 31, when she demanded an additional RM600.

Unable to tolerate the matter any longer, the victim informed her own mother, who then urged her to lodge a police report.

Checks also showed that the victim had never met the suspect face-to-face.

Idris said that during the arrest, police seized various items including a mobile phone and a SIM card, an ATM card as well as RM152 in cash from the suspect.

The case is being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion.

The suspect is being remanded until Monday.

If found guilty, the suspect can be jailed a maximum of 10 years, fined, whipped or any of the two punishments.
