Johor Plantations to plant over a million trees in the span of 10 years

PONTIAN: Johor Plantations Bhd took a significant stride towards environmental sustainability with the launch of its "One Million Roots for the Future" tree planting campaign.

Its managing director Mohd Faris Adli Shukery said the initiative aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 15, which aimed to protect, restore and promote the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems while combatting land degradation and biodiversity loss.

Yesterday, 60 of Johor Plantations employees planted 300 mangrove saplings at Taman Negara Johor in Tanjung Piai, near here, in conjunction with the recent World Environment Day.

Mohd Faris said the "One Million Roots for the Future" campaign served as a prelude to Johor Plantations' upcoming Southern Sustainability Summit, scheduled in July.

"The summit signifies a crucial milestone in the company's dedication in championing environmental sustainability and active stewardship of natural resources," he said.

Johor Plantations is committed to plant over a million trees in the span of 10 years.

As a responsible agricultural sector player, it's Johor Plantations' personal initiative to contribute to the environment, by creating awareness via environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) principles and sustainability within their organisation.

The company also aimed to enhance its environmental credentials through sustainable development, encouraging environmental responsibility and collective action towards a greener, more sustainable future.

To further strengthen the tree planting campaign, Johor Plantations collaborated with the Malaysia Nature Society and Johor National Park Corporation.

The collaboration was to solicitate their networks via shared expertise.

Johor Plantations also welcomed collaboration with public or private organisations, interested to take part in the tree planting campaign.

Johor Plantations Bhd is a subsidiary of Kulim (M) Berhad. Its principal activities are oil palm cultivation and the processing of fresh fruit bunches into crude palm oil and palm kernel.

It owns and manages plantations and mills in Malaysia, with their main focus on Johor. The company is also involved in managing estates, seeds production, agricultural and landscaping supplies. They also deal in agricultural machineries and parts.

It also operates renewable energy facilities and provides safety and health training and related services.
