Anwar: Work first, politics later

SABAK BERNAM: Politic is the last thing on Madani government's agenda, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

He said this was reflected in his schedule today which starts with meeting the Orang Asli community here at the state-level Sentuhan Kasih Desa (SKD) programme, followed by other functions with gig economy workers, Tamil speakers and Islamic scholars.

He said only at end of the day, will he take part in politically-themed programmes such as the PKR candidates announcement in Shah Alam.

"This is the way we work, politics come later.

"Yesterday, I was in Vietnam but some people say we went there (makan angin) sightseeing.

"Malaysia is an important country in Asean, so when a leader comes (here for a visit), it is important (for us) to also visit their countries.

"Don't compare with the previous leaders who have less invitations. Don't be jealous." he quipped.

Anwar added that of late, he has been getting a lot of invitations from world leaders to visit their countries, with the latest being two days ago from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

"Last month, I received a call from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

"Then, there's the invitation to meet Turkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul.

"However, as a new prime minister, I want to focus on my duties here. We will go only for official duties," he said.

Also present at the SKD programme, organised by Rural and Regional Development Ministry, were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.
