Cow theft case solved within 24 hours, four nabbed in Jerantut

LIPIS: A group of cattle rustlers, who were attempting to sell off stolen cows at Kampung Paya Gunung in Jerantut, received a surprise "buyer" yesterday.

A 37-year-old livestock breeder from Felda Sungai Koyan 1, Kuala Lipis, turned up at the farm and immediately identified the herd of cattle which were put up for sale as those which went missing at his farm on Aug 6.

He alerted the authorities before a police team from Lipis solved the case within 24 hours after arresting four men including a pair of siblings at a farm in Kampung Paya Gunong, Jerantut about 6.30pm yesterday.

Lipis police chief Superintendent Azli Mohd Nor said the cattle breeder had gone to his farm at Felda Sungai Koyan 1 about 2.05pm on Aug 6 when he realised 13 cows were missing.

"After searching the farm area and the Felda scheme, he could not locate the cows and suspected the animals had been stolen. The man who has been rearing cattles for some 20 years lodged a police report at the Sungai Koyan police station at 7pm.

"The owner also found four of his cows in a weak condition believed to be sedated at the farm. The owner has a total of 228 cattle and each animal is recognised based on their ear tags on the right ear, and special ear marking on the left side.

"The owner immediately shared the news about the missing cows with his friends on several WhatsApp groups before he was alerted that a herd of cattle had been put up for sale at a farm in Jerantut.

"Based on several images which were shared with the owner, he suspected that the cattle belonged to him," he said, adding the stolen cows worth some RM35,000 were between one and three years old.

Azli said the following day, the owner and a friend went to the farm at Kampung Paya Gunung near Jerantut Ferry at about 11am.

"The owner identified several cattles kept in the farm belonging to him based on their size and special ear markings. The cows belonging to the cattle breeder have a cut mark on the left ear.

"The owner lodged a police report before a team from Lipis detained six men at the farm in Kampung Paya Gunong about 6.30pm. Police recovered the 13 stolen cows and seized a Isuzu lorry, six handphones and RM13,200 cash," he said.

Azli said the four men - two farm owners and two cattle thieves - aged between 27 and 48 years old with previous records for drug offences were detained.

"Two others nabbed at the farm were suspected buyers and were released after their statements were recorded. The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft," he said.
