Over 6,800 policemen, spouses in Kedah take part in early voting for state polls

ALOR STAR: A total of 6,839 Kedah police officers and personnel, along with their spouses are eligible to take part in early voting process for the state election today.

State police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh said the number included 710 officers and 5,976 personnel across 21 polling centres in the state.

"The figure also includes 153 spouses of officers from the General Operations Force (PGA) stationed in Kulim and Bukit Kayu Hitam. The early voting has proceeded smoothly," he told reporters after supervising the processes at the state police headquarters here today.

Fisol added that the state police aimed for a 100 per cent turnout of early voters.

Based on the Election Commission (EC) update, as at 11am, 61 per cent of the eligible voters in the early voting process have cast their vote.

Fisol also highlighted that throughout the state election campaign period from July 29 to Aug 7, the police had received 237 police reports concerning election-related offences.

He said investigations were underway for various offences under the Election Act 1954, the 1998 Communications and Multimedia Act, and the Penal Code.

"Out of this number, 18 investigation papers have been initiated, leading to two arrests. This demonstrates a substantial decline in cases related to election offences," he added.

Commenting further, he also urged political campaign organisers to comply with campaign regulations and secure permits before conducting speeches.

"This approach ensures safety aspects, such as traffic control, are effectively managed in order to facilitate a seamless campaign process for all participating parties.

"Throughout the campaign period, supporters of competing candidates are urged to refrain from engaging in actions that could endanger public safety or sow discord among the people," he added.
