IGP: Doctored video of Perak Sultan's speech probed for sedition

KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the case involving a woman over an edited video clip of the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah endorsing a political party is being investigated under the Sedition Act 1948 as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

Razarudin said the police took a statement from a woman in her 40s, who has been linked to the video, yesterday, at the Cyberjaya police station at 2.30pm.

"There have been no arrests made as yet. The police are still investigating and will submit papers to the attorney-general's chambers once it's completed," he said when contacted.

Yesterday, Razarudin said police received 24 reports on the case and investigations were ongoing.

Previously, a video clip lasting 170 seconds that quoted a small part of Sultan Nazrin's speech in 2013 touched on being in support of PAS went viral.

Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja Perak Tan Sri Dr Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin in a statement had denounced the video and said that it had been edited and taken out of context as Sultan Nazrin did not support any political party and did not take sides in politics.

A police report had been lodged regarding the woman who posted the clip.

He said in the 90-minute speech, Sultan Nazrin presented his analysis of Umno and PAS, the two dominant Malay parties at the time and had expressed positive words for both parties.
