Negri Sembilan police receive 83 reports on election-related offences

SEREMBAN: State police have received 83 reports related to a number of suspected election offences since nomination day.

Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said most of the reports lodged were related to ceramah or other forms of campaign activities that were conducted without permits, and one report on vandalism involving an election poster in the Jempol district.

Ahmad Dzaffir said based on checks by the police, there have been no reports lodged related to people stirring up 3R-related issues of race, religion and the royal institution.

"The police will nevertheless continue to monitor the situation and all people are reminded from stirring up 3R-related issues.

"In the event that we detect people stoking up 3R issues and if there were no reports lodged on the matter, the police will take it upon ourselves to investigate the matter," he told reporters at the handing over ceremony of appointment of the Negri Sembilan-chapter Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) committee members at the state police headquarters here today.

On a related matter, Ahmad Dzaffir also reminded contesting parties, candidates and organisers to ensure all campaigning activities and ceramah would end before midnight.

"Our men are on the ground to monitor the situation to ensure the people disperse from the premises and locations where the campaigning or ceramah are being organised.

"All forms of campaigning activities or ceramah must stop when the clock strikes midgnight," he said.
