'Parliament would be more effective if Independent candidates win,' says Pulai hopeful Samsudin

JOHOR BARU: As an independent candidate running for the Pulai parliamentary seat, Samsudin Mohaman Fauzi's message is simple.

He wants to be a "third power bloc" in Parliament so that he can enhance the work culture there as well as be the voice of non-profit organisations' agendas.

Samsudin said he believed Parliament's productivity would be further increased with the presence of independent candidates who would act as check and balance to the government and the opposition.

The Kuala Lumpur Consumers Safety Association chairman said he understands the people's woes and shared their sentiments.

"Just like the everyday person, I am also tired of politicians who are busy competing for positions and power, while consumer and security issues are ignored in parliamentary sittings.

"I decided on using the 'key' as my logo as its symbolic meaning is that I would be the key to pave an opening for other NGO leaders to be in Parliament," he said, adding that the people's voice should be heard in Parliament sessions.

"The independent power bloc winning seats in Parliament will not threaten the position of the ruling government, but it will create a harmonious and stable environment within the chamber."

The 47-year-old, who was born in Kluang, is campaigning with a 10-strong entourage in Pulai.

He said, despite not having massive campaigning materials and a huge entourage, it seemed like the people welcomed his efforts.
