PN accepts Mira, Iman into coalition

KUALA BERANG: Perikatan Nasional (PN) has accepted two new partners, the Minority Rights Action Party (Mira) and the National Indian Muslim Alliance Party (Iman) into the coalition.

PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, said the PN Supreme Council had approved the participation of the two parties, which represent the voice of the Indian community in the country.

He said there were many parties representing Indians in Malaysia.

"MIC may be the biggest party for Indians but there are actually many other registered parties.

"We have set up a committee for the Indian Community Committee under PN.

"The committee is chaired by me, while the deputy, secretary and others are all Indians who will manage and.discuss problems related to the community.

"When we discuss the problem of the Indians, believe me tomorrow (during the General Election) will come, in the manifesto, we will have things that are focused on the Indian community," he said.

He was met by reporters after attending a PN ceramah at Durian Badur here, last night.

He said the committee also included non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

"Recently, when I called a meeting, more than 30 people attended and after learning about the meeting many wanted to join. In a day or two I will call another meeting and so far more than 50 people have agreed to attend.

"So this means that there is feedback from party leaders and NGOs that represent the Indian community and I want to inform you that now there are two parties which are PN partners, one of which is Mira and the other is Iman," he said.
