#Showbiz: Singer Lah Ahmad grateful to be at Mak Tok's side before her passing

KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Lah Ahmad, who will be serenading fans in a concert next month couldn't hold back tears when talking about his beloved grandmother who died on Tuesday.

"We have lost the most precious person because she was the only elder left in our family. After my father died, Mak Tok had lived with us since I was three years old," he said during an interview with media personnel after a press conference for his upcoming concert at Ideas Hotel, here yesterday.

In between teary pauses, the 43-year-old artiste whose name is Abdullah Ahmad said that he was grateful to have been at her side for one last time and was able to be the imam during prayers for the deceased.

He added that the burial proceedings also went smoothly for his grandmother, Meriam Ahmad or Mak Tok, who died at the age of 102.

"Mak Tok had never scolded me once. When she saw me wearing torn jeans she would just throw them away without being angry at me.

"She had patiently taught me to be a better person, which included studying the Quran and the ins and outs of solat.

"We accept this, as we were already ready for Mak Tok's passing which could happen at any time.

"I have had the intention to be the imam for Mak Tok's jenazah prayers for a while now. So I am grateful to have been able to do that and everything went smoothly," he said.

The Ayu hitmaker will be staging his Konsert Lah Ahmad Jatuh Cinta at Istana Budaya on Oct 7.

Organised by Rubbertapper Production House, the concert will see Lah performing about 20 songs accompanied by Orkestra Simfoni Universiti Malaya.
