2022 AG's report: St Regis Langkawi land still belongs to Lada, matter under MoF purview, says Sanusi

ALOR STAR: The land where the St Regis Langkawi was developed still belongs to Langkawi Development Authority (Lada), Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has clarified today.

Sanusi said the land ownership of the ultra luxurious resort, that was opened in April 2016, is yet to be resolved until today due governance issues during its development.

"There is a land (ownership) issue regarding the St Regis (Langkawi). There was an issue of misconduct during its development process.

"They (the developer) did not comply with the initial agreement. "Lada did not allow our land to be used as collateral.

They (St Regis Resort) wanted to use the land as collateral but we did not allow that. So, we did not sign."Thus, the land does not belong to the St Regis, it still belongs to Lada.

Therefore, the issue is still hanging. "St Regis does not least the land from Lada, so how do you collect land leasing from them?" he told reporters after chairing the state executive council meeting at Wisma Darul Aman here today.

Sanusi added that the issue should be referred to the MoF as Lada is an agency under the ministry.

He was responding to the 2022 Auditor-General's Report which revealed that Lada Property Development Management has failed to collect land lease revenue for two projects.

Auditor General Datuk Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi was reported as saying that the total land lease revenue failed to be collected totalling RM11.49 million.

The two projects are St. Regis Hotel development project for RM3.19 million since 2018, and land lease for the Tok Senik Village Project amounting to RM8.30 million since 2003.

For record, the St Regis Langkawi is owned by Integrated Nautical Resort Sdn Bhd.

The project is a joint venture between Rajawali Group and the MoF.
