Israk Mikraj: PM calls Muslim to renew resolve, restore dignity

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on Muslims to renew their resolve and learn from Prophet Muhammad's experience during the Israk and Mikraj journey to restore the dignity of the ummah.

He said Muslims should strengthen their belief before taking on more complicated tasks involving the people's welfare and the country.

Anwar, in a post on Facebook, said the prophet's journey on the 27th of Rejab was a spiritual one that Allah granted him following the deaths of his wife Khadijah binti Khuwaylid and uncle Abu Talib bin Abdul Muttalib.

He said Prophet Muhammad's spirit was almost broken after he was ridiculed and humiliated during a visit to Ta'if, but was lifted following his return from the Sidratul Muntaha during the Mikraj part of the journey. The prophet was also given a new task to free people from the shackles of ignorance, Anwar added.

He said the journey was significant as it was on that night that Allah had decreed that Muslims should perform five prayers a day. - Bernama
