Mara unit, Hino team up to boost TVET

ROMPIN: Mara Liner Sdn Bhd (MLSB) has teamed up with Hino Motors Sales (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd to establish its first Hino Approved Service Outlet (Haso) in Muadzam Shah here as part of its efforts to strengthen the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector.

The one-stop automotive service centre will develop a skilled workforce and boost the availability of highly skilled human capital by recruiting automotive engineering students from Institut Kemahiran Mara (IKM) and GiatMARA.

Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) director-general Datuk Seri Azhar Abdul Manaf said more than 20 IKM students were trained at Haso Muadzam Shah before eight were offered permanent positions as mechanics at Mara Liner workshops nationwide.

"I am proud as they have gained the necessary knowledge at the teaching factory at Haso (in Muadzam Shah) where the TVET technical graduates' skills were developed to cater for the industry. Intensifying their skills will make them more marketable to be accepted in the industry.

"Mara's move to set up subsidiary companies in various industries provides the platform for its graduates to equip themselves with the necessary knowledge before venturing further in their preferred industry.

"Such initiatives help the country produce quality and highly skilled human capital that meets the demands of the industry and develop the economy," he said in his speech when opening the Haso outlet in Muadzam Shah here today.

"I was informed that since the outlet was opened, more than 400 commercial vehicles have undergone service and maintenance. The workshop which offers vehicle maintenance, repair and operation not only provides services to Mara buses but also other vehicles," he said.

MLSB chief executive officer Zachary Ismail Zee Ismail said the Haso service outlet here was the first in the country while the second outlet would be opened in Langkawi.

"MLSB has 17 workshops around the country and five, including the one in Muadzam Shah, have been upgraded to serve all types of vehicles. We are targeting to upgrade another two service outlets soon.

"The collaboration with Hino will help equip our technicians with professional skills, utilise the system developed by Hino, seek advice and consult the Hino headquarters in Petaling Jaya through video calls and obtain original spare parts from Hino," he said, adding the service outlet here was not only for commercial or Hino vehicles but open to all types of vehicles.

He described the MLSB and Hino partnership through Haso as in line with the aspirations of deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to intensify skills education and implement TVET programmes on a large scale, focusing on target groups from the rural areas.

Meanwhile, Hino managing director Atsushi Uchiyama said the strategic partnership between Hino and Mara was made possible when both parties agreed to leverage existing commercial vehicle facilities.

"In the commercial vehicle industry, we are not solely focused on product sales as the after sales services are also our main focus where we strive to ensure customer's vehicles perform well. Haso is developed with the objective to provide total support and after sale services to customers," he said.
