Deliveryman allegedly stole customer's jewelry

AMPANG JAYA: A deliveryman who allegedly stole jewellery belonging to a customer was arrested in Petaling Jaya, today.

Ampang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the police received a report from a victim who claimed that a parcel containing jewellery was stolen by the deliveryman.

On March 23 at 1.05pm, the victim received a call stating that a parcel had been left at the front of the premises.

"The victim met the deliveryman and was told where the parcel had been placed," he said in a statement today.

Minutes later, the victim returned home but found her parcel containing jewellery valued at RM1,500 missing. She then lodged a police report.

The police soon detained the 29-year-old man at Jalan SS3/60, Petaling Jaya, 12.30am today.

They also seized handphones, a helmet, delivery bag, T-shirt, pants, and motorcycle used by the man who had a criminal record.

"Checks revealed that the man had sold the jewellery and used it to buy motorcycle accessories," he said, adding that the urine test came back negative.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
